New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced his resignation at a press conference after calls for him to step down amid allegations of harassment.
Cuomo said that he did not want to cause this loss of energy, stating that it would be a waste of valuable time and money during the months-long impeachment proceedings.
Continuing to defend himself against the allegations against him, Cuomo started the meeting by criticizing the report of New York Attorney General Letitia James.
Claiming that the report had serious errors, Cuomo said, “claiming that I behaved inappropriately and concluding sexual harassment are two different things.”
Cuomo said that his words did not mean to deny that he had hurt 11 women deeply and apologized to the women.
Expressing that he took all responsibility for his actions, was too close to people, and did not hesitate to hug and kiss, Cuomo said, “I did not cross the border with anyone, but I did not know where the border ends. I should have taken into account the generation and cultural differences in this regard, but I did not.”
The impeachment investigation of Democratic Governor Cuomo, who has been serving for three terms, was continuing in the New York State Assembly with allegations such as sexual harassment, misleading the public about the Kovid-19 outbreak in nursing homes and giving priority to family and relatives in Covid-19 tests.
