WHAT IS THE EMMY AWARD?
Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (ATAS) founded the Emmy Awards as part of image creation and public relations. The first Emmy Award was given to the Hollywood Athletic Club program on January 25, 1949. The name “emmy” comes from the “immy” used for the camera tube on old television cameras. Shirley Dinsdale is the first person to receive the Emmy Award at the first Emmy Awards.
In the 1950s, ATAS transformed the organization into a broadly attended organization with its television broadcasts throughout the country. The sister organization National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS), which helps mentor the Emmy Awards, was founded in New York. ATAS is currently holding a separate regional ceremony in the Los Angeles area that rewards regional programs. There is only one Emmy Award ceremony that rewards screenings each year with US national broadcast. It changed in 1974 when the Daytime Emmy Awards were first held as a separate awards show, exclusively for the daytime program generation. Special Emmy Awards ceremonies in other areas followed.
AWARDS GIVEN OUT OF AMERICA WITH INTERNATIONAL EMMY
In the 1970s, the International Emmy Awards, which awarded productions outside the United States, began to be held. Meanwhile, Emmy winners in all these separate categories and in different areas began to be listed on ATAS ‘official records with the Primetime Emmy Awards.
NATAS AND ATAS LEAVE
In 1977, ATAS and NATAS decided to separate, but it was also agreed to share ownership of the Emmy statuette and its trademark and each be responsible for part of the management of the award shows.
WHAT IS THE EMMY SCULPTURE, HOW DOES IT COME OUT?
The winged female figurine holding an atom in her hand began to symbolize the goal of supporting and glorifying the science and art of television after the Emmy Awards appeared. The wings in the figurine represent the muse of art, while the atom represents the electron of science. The figurine was designed by television engineer Louis McManus, modeled after his wife. The Emmy Award figurines are prepared by the private company El Dorado Correctional Facility located in El Dorado, Kansas.
