Suicide at 405 overpass in Irvine

A man jumping from a 405 overpass in Irvine attempted suicide after being hit by a flatbed truck.

California Highway Patrol officials gave a SigAlert Monday morning on a southward piece of the 405 overpass close to MacArthur Boulevard, after a man purportedly fell or leaped to his demise from a bridge onto the interstate, authorities detailed.

CHP representative Officer Florentino said officials were called to the scene in a matter of seconds before 11 a.m. Monday with respect to a casualty who’d been struck by a vehicle in the southward paths of the 405 Freeway.

Olivera affirmed a man had hopped from the bridge into approaching traffic and was struck by a white box truck as he slipped.

“At the point when officials showed up on scene, it seems he hopped onto the Interstate 405, where he struck a vehicle voyaging southward,” Oliver said. “He was as yet airborne when he got hit.”

CHP faculty briefly shut three paths of traffic while the coroner’s office was called to the scene. Traffic eased back as paths stayed shut for roughly two hours, Olivera said.
