After Tiktok’s scandalous decision, your personal data is no longer safe!

TikTok is an application that can be found on the phones of almost all of the Z generation who were born after 2020, especially despite the antipathetic approach in social media. In fact, this situation is one of the biggest examples of generation conflict, although it is thought that generation conflict can end in the developing world, TikTok has proven the opposite. The application, which aroused great hatred for different reasons, especially in the audience over the age of 25-30, continues to be the apple of the eye of the youth.

Of course, the fact that it is one of the most downloaded and used applications brings with it doubts about the trust in TikTok. TikTok, which will be banned by the US for allegedly leaking information to China, got around this ban by partnering with one of the US software companies Oracle and Walmart, one of the largest chain stores, and agreeing to have their databases stored on US servers.

TikTok will collect biometric data

Tiktok will now be able to collect face and voice data and use it as they wish.

TikTok, which changed a confidentiality agreement for US users earlier this week, drew backlash with new contract clauses. TikTok announced that with this contract, it will also store the biometric information of all users. In other words, face and voice information from users’ videos will now be collected and processed by TikTok.

Of course, in states where consent is required for this data collection, users’ consent will be required through the app. However, the number of states with laws regarding the collection of biometric data is quite limited. Of the 50 US states, only California, Illinois, New York, Texas, and Washington have relevant laws. So in the remaining 45 states, TikTok has already started collecting biometric data from the background without asking for any permission.

It doesn’t make much sense to think that this biometric data collection business will be limited to the USA only. This new Tiktok contract, like the Whatsapp contract that exploded in the past months, may cause a crisis in our country. We hope there are laws regarding biometric data collection in Turkey but at least it will be subject to permission. In fact, as in the case of Whatsapp, TikTok can be prevented from collecting biometric data from Turkey by a court decision by standing behind the consumer. It seems we will see all this when TikTok’s new contract comes to Turkey.
