Netherlands imposes record penalty on TikTok

In the Netherlands, the Personal Data Protection Authority (DPA) announced that the social media application TikTok was fined 750 thousand euros for not providing a Dutch-language explanation on the protection of children’s personal data in the country. In the Netherlands, there are two compensation cases filed against TikTok for violating the security of personal data. The institutions that filed the lawsuit demanded that TikTok pay one thousand euros to each Dutch user under the age of 16.

In the statement made on the DPA website, it was noted that TikTok did not provide sufficient information in Dutch about how it collects, processes and uses the data of child users.

In the statement, which noted that the text on the use of personal data shared in English is not sufficient for children, it was stated that TikTok was given an administrative penalty of 750 thousand euros.

In the statement, it was stated that since TikTok does not have a company registered in the Netherlands, the administrative investigation was carried out through the TikTok subsidiary in Ireland.
