The inhabitants of the village have been evacuated, but the melting ice causes beings hidden under the ice for too long.

After a full year of continuous eruption of Iceland’s subglacial Katla Volcano, Gríma is still searching for his sister, who disappeared on the day the eruptions began. There may be something hidden under the glaciers that no one could have predicted.

Katla Series Theme and Commentary

Katla, Netflix’s new series built from an unknown region, namely Iceland, aims to take the audience on a breathtaking mystery journey. So much so that there was a volcanic eruption in the Icelandic village of Vik, and this eruption began to affect the ordinary course of the world, especially the future of the Vik people. Although some of the inhabitants of the village are currently evacuated, some disappeared before and after the explosion.

After a short and impressive introduction, the dates are fast forwarded one year. Naturally, while some characters appear, the first of these names is Grima. Even though he darkens our day with his pale, exhausted demeanor, the pain he experienced is indescribable. Because her older sister Asa disappeared before the explosion and has still not been found. Months and years have passed, but Grima’s hope is still there.

After watching a few episodes, you can feel like you are on a wonderful journey. Impressive visuals, graphics, portraits and many other key details are on par with Katla and a few other modern series. Although we witness similar visuals in some productions from very ancient times, Katla offers an extremely impressive performance at this point.

The part that creates the biggest question mark and interests us more is the flow of the story. Although Katla cannot decide exactly what to focus on, the chaotic and dramatic atmosphere she creates meets the audience one-on-one. Missing sisters, neighborhood residents who haven’t been around for years, “ash woman” coming out of lava, various creatures and many more mysterious characters. And in the center is the eruption of the volcano.
