How did Selena Quintanilla die?
At the beginning of 1995, Quintanillas realized that Saldívar was embezzling money from her fan club and decided to fire her. On the morning of March 31, 1995, three weeks after the spill, Selena agrees to meet with Saldívar at the Days Inn hotel in Corpus Christi to collect her tax paperwork. At the hotel, Selena requested the missing financial paperwork. Saldívar delayed the transfer, claiming she was raped in Mexico. The singer took Saldívar to the hospital, and the doctors found no evidence of the rape. Saldívar returned to the motel and Selena reclaimed the lost financial documents.
Selena says she can no longer trust Saldivar. At 11:49 PM Saldívar pulled a gun from her bag and pointed it at Selena. As the singer turned and left the room, an artery ruptured when Saldívar shot her once in the right shoulder. Severely injured, Selena rushed to the lobby for help. When the receptionist called 911, Selena collapsed and Saldívar followed her after calling her “wh*re”. Before Selena passed out, she said it was Saldívar who attacked her and gave the number of the room where she was shot.
Selena was taken to a local hospital after the police and lifeguard arrived on the scene. She bled to death there at 13:05. Two weeks before her 24th birthday. The cause of death was internal bleeding and cardiac arrest. Saldivar got into her red pickup truck. She did not allow the police to come near her, as she was pointing her gun at the temple on her left. Nine and a half hours later she peacefully surrendered to the police. Meanwhile, hundreds of fans gathered at the scene, many of them crying as the police drove away Saldivar.
