There was a first in the list of the richest people in the world. 60-year-old Indian billionaire Guatam Adani has increased his wealth by $60.9 billion since the beginning of the year, rising to the third place in the ranking of the richest people in the world. Increasing his fortune to 137.4 billion dollars, Adani also left behind famous US riches such as Microsoft’s boss Bill Gates and stock market legend Warren Buffet. Finally, Adani surpassed Bernard Arnault, the richest person in France and Europe, to enter the top three. Thus, for the first time, an Asian entered the top three in the Bloomberg billionaires index, which lists the world’s richest people.
List of the richest people in the world
Elon Musk is at the top of the list of the richest people in the world, with a fortune of $ 251.4 billion. Jeff Bezos, the boss of e-commerce and IT giant Amazon, is in the second place of the list with a fortune of 153.4 billion dollars. Another Indian billionaire, Mukesh Ambani, ranks 11th in the list of the richest with a fortune of $ 91.9 billion.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who is at the top of the list of the richest, has decreased by $ 18.9 billion since the beginning of the year, while the decrease in the fortune of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos was $ 39 billion.
French businessman Bernard Arnault, fourth on the list, has lost nearly $42 billion in wealth this year. Bill Gates lost $20.6 billion from his fortune this year.
While most people’s fortunes fell this year with the sharp declines in the US stock markets, Adani’s fortune rose to $ 60.9 billion this year.
Thus, establishing his empire on agricultural trade, coal and ports, Adani continued to rise in the fortunes traditionally occupied by US tech entrepreneurs.
Adani’s wealth is also rapidly diversifying in areas such as green energy, airports, data centers, digital services and media, in line with the building strategy of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
In the late 1980s, Adani left the university and started with an agri-trade firm, and most of her fortune has been acquired in the last two years.
According to Bloomberg billionaires index data, Adani’s wealth was $5.8 billion on March 16, 2020.
This figure, which reached $ 35.9 billion on February 2, 2021, increased to $ 88.5 billion as of February 7, 2022. Adani’s wealth exceeding $100 billion in April enabled her to enter the elite club, which also includes Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos, from the top positions.
Thus, Adani’s wealth increased more than 20 times in two years. Known for its coal production and trade and port management, Adani has also made a name for itself with its investments in renewable energy and media in recent years.
IT ALSO HAS INVESTMENTS IN MANY SECTORS
Adani Group, of which Adani is the founder, also has investments in many sectors, including petrochemistry, aerospace, defense and data centers.
Recently, Adani has been doing business in many fields such as construction, steel, including a joint venture in Saudi oil giant Aramco. The businessman, who invested $10.5 billion in the cement industry in India this year, signed an agreement with South Korean steel producer Posco.
On the other hand, in April, Adani’s flagship company, Adani Enterprises, announced that it has established a new media outlet and that it will also benefit from the rapidly growing local entertainment market.
Gautam Adani was kidnapped
Adani, who was kidnapped for ransom nearly 20 years ago, became one of the people taken hostage in the 2008 terrorist attack at the Taj Mahal Palace in Mumbai that killed 166 people.
In India, the opposition is criticizing that Adani has increased her wealth thanks to her closeness with the far-right Prime Minister Modi.
