Footage of the shooting of 13-year-old Toledo, one of the youngest names killed by the police in the state of Illinois, USA, was shared. It appears that Toledo was not carrying a gun when he was shot in the incident on March 29 in Chicago. The mayor said, “We couldn’t protect it,” the family lawyer spoke harshly: “Shooting an unarmed child with his hands in the air is an assassination.”
In Minnesota, USA, after the 20-year-old black boy named Daunte Wright was shot and killed by the police on April 11, there was a development that increased the reactions as the protests continued. In Chicago, the third largest city in the country, police shared footage of a 13-year-old Latina boy who was killed by the police again. The boy named Adam Toledo became one of the youngest citizens to be killed by the police in the Illinois state of Chicago in recent years.

According to footage recorded by police officer Eric Stillman’s body camera, Toledo escapes the police in the incident on 29 March. The police followed, “Stop! Stop! Put your hands up!” she yells. Toledo then turns with his hands in the air. Then the police officer shouts “Drop him out of your hand”, fires his gun and shoots Toledo in the chest. All of this happens within 19 seconds of getting out of the police car and starting to pursue Toledo.

Although the prosecutor’s office referred to Toledo’s armed gun, the boy did not see the gun when it was fired. Various security footage shows Toledo throwing an object around him while being followed by the police. According to the body camera images, there is a gun behind the fence after the moment of shooting.
The prosecution determined that Toledo was with a 21-year-old man named Ruben Roman that night, that Roman shot at a passing car and that the police went to the area because of gunfire.

Adeena Weiss Ortiz, the Toledo family’s lawyer, said, “These videos show everything. In the last moments of his life, Adam had no gun in his hand. When the police shouted ‘Show your hands,” Adam obeyed and turned to the cops. When he was shot, he had nothing. He fired despite seeing “he used expressions. Acknowledging that Toledo may be holding a gun while being chased by the police, but underlining that it was obvious that he had nothing at the moment he was shot, the lawyer said “It is an assassination to shoot an unarmed child with his hands in the air.”
