Auckland City withdraws from FIFA Club World Cup

The Auckland City team will not be able to participate in the 17th FIFA Clubs World Cup to be held in Qatar due to corona virus measures in New Zealand.

According to the statement made by FIFA, Auckland City Club, New Zealand Football Association and Oceania Football Confederation were discussed for a solution. However, the club reported that they could not participate in the tournament due to the isolation and quarantine protocols in New Zealand.

Following the withdrawal of Auckland City, the tournament will continue with 6 teams (El-Duhail, El Ehli, Bayern Munich, Ulsan Hyundai, Tigres and Libertadores Cup champions).

The host, El-Duhail, will start the organization from round 2, as the first round match will not be played. Other than that, there will be no change in the format.

The 2020 FIFA Clubs World Cup, postponed due to the pandemic, will be held on February 1-11.
