Hopkins, who received his first Oscar for his role in The Silence of the Lambs 29 years ago, shared a thank you message on his Instagram account. It was expected to be given to Chadwick Boseman in honor of Hopkins, who was awarded the Best Actor Award. Hopkins chose to honor Boseman in his acceptance speech. In his speech, Hopkins said, “Good morning, I am in my hometown Wales. I did not expect to receive this award at the age of 83. It really is, and I am grateful to the Academy, thank you. I want to commemorate Chadwick Boseman, who left us too early. And thank you all. Very privileged and proud. “I feel it,” he said.

Before Anthony Hopkins, Christopher Plummer was the oldest actor ever to receive an award. Plummer was awarded with the movie Beginners at the age of 82.
