A British teenager drowned in the swimming pool of a Turkish resort while celebrating his family wedding.
The 14-year-old had difficulty swimming with his aunt at the all-inclusive Liberty Lara beach hotel on Sunday afternoon.
Police are investigating allegations that the pool was unattended because the lifeguard was on lunch break – the hotel denies.
One vacationer said the boy was unconsciously dragged out of the pool by a bartender and was given CPR before being taken to the hospital.
The audience said: “This happened around 1 pm and we heard that the lifeguard had gone to lunch.
“They tried very hard to revive the boy by the pool, but it was too late.
“It’s very sad, especially when you think they’re there for such a happy reason.”
The boy and his family are believed to be in the 311-room Liberty Lara for a wedding.
A hotel spokesperson told The Sun: “It is heartbreaking that one of our young guests sadly passed away yesterday while swimming in our main pool with her aunt.

“The sad, tragic loss of a young life is both devastating and jarring for family, close relatives and loved ones. “Out of respect to the family, we refrain from making any comments on the incident until we get the autopsy results.”
When asked about allegations that there were no lifeguards on duty at the time of the incident, the spokesperson said this was “categorically untrue”.
“There are CCTV cameras around the pool area that are monitored by both the Liberty Lara administration and the local police. Lifeguards were on the scene within 30 seconds.
“According to the rules and regulations regarding the lifeguards we deploy at all our pools, slide splash pools, on the beach and in our watchtower at the pier, another lifeguard will be picked up by the lifeguard when the lifeguard takes a lunch break. Location.
“We have more than enough lifeguards to make sure the pools are not left unattended when a lifeguard takes a lunch break.”
